Dear Response Point Partner,

This is the big online event of the year! The Microsoft Response Point team is sponsoring a 1.5 hour Town Hall meeting for Microsoft partners who are selling and installing Response Point. This is your best opportunity to find out what is going on with Microsoft Response Point and ask you business and technical questions! We have the General Manager, Marketing, Program Management, Development, and the OEMs on-line ready to go!

Town Hall Agenda:
1. Update the VARs on recent changes and programs (i.e. the website changes, Loaner Program, the campaigns, Specialist program, new partners, etc)
2. LISTEN to what the VARs want and need to grow their business
3. Give the Response Point VARs an opportunity to get business and technical questions answered directly from the Microsoft Response Point team and senior representatives from Aastra, D-Link, and Syspine.
4. Microsoft Program managers, Developers, Product managers, and OEMs will be in the background answering yourquestions via the question manager in Live Meeting.

Date: Thursday, Oct 30th, 9:00-10:30am PDT
Audience: Microsoft Partners who sell and install Response Point solutions
Location: Office Live Meeting
Cost: FREE
Attendee Registration for Microsoft Partners:
training.partner.microsoft.com/plc/details.aspx?publisher=12&delivery=255101

Response Point Partner Town Hall Meeting
The Microsoft Response Point Marketing and Development teams are hosting a question and answer webcast for any and all partners who are interested in Response Point and are currently selling Response Point. With recent announcements on new SIP Trunking providers as well as new peripheral partners for T1 support and conference phone support, the solution opportunity for partners and Response Point expands. Additionally, our go to market plans for the year focus on demand gen activities with Partners being an important cog in these planned campaigns.

Microsoft will spend a few minutes updating partners on what is currently going on with Response Point and will open up the floor for marketing and technical questions. This is a great chance to find out what the product and opportunity are and get some straight answers from the team who is building the product. We have also invited the OEMs to be online to answer your questions and listen to your concerns and comments.

Note: If you can't make it, the presentation will be archived and available for partners to view at the Microsoft partner learning center. It takes about 24 hours before the on demand link is ready. Register today and you will be notified.
Thank You!
The Response Point Team

Thanks,
The Response Point Team

Now they are doing the Q&A Portion of the site:

Question: Can you address the BIG COSCO banner on the RP site and the tough way to find a specialist like us. Since the banner went up our calls stopped. We are the partyners that work hard selling MS products and they see Costco first and have to dig to find us. I had a Physicians office say they wouldnt buy it because if it was sold out of Costco it must be a chep system...
Answer: See our presentation today. We're making a major change to our web site soon.
Question: Hi Guys
Answer: Hi, Allen.
Question: No option to ‘go back to main menu’ if the voice recognition doesn’t work and sends you to the wrong person or if you reach someone’s voicemail and instead of leaving a message you want to go back to the main menu to choose another option. Right now the only option is to hang up and call in again
Answer: We will have a solution to this problem available soon.
Question: Vote by clicking in on your choice in the slide area...
Answer: ...no need to change seat color. Thanks!
Question: Is there anyway to answers someone elses phone that is ringing? I hear my phone ring when I'm not in my office, but I can't just pick up any phone and answer it
Answer: Jason. Not in Response Point 1.0. This is an important feature that we will be addressing in the future
Question: I have installed one
Answer: Thanks Jack
Question: We have installed an Aastra RP system. We easily connect the copper cable phone line to it and it is working just fine. Then we took the big step of attempting to connect a SIP to it through Binary Telecom. (Severa other RP Partners have recommended Binary Telecom). When we tried we only got failures. The error message we received is: The base unit could not validate the configuration successfully. Do you want to continue and save the configuratio to the base unit? If you clik No, you can go back in the wizard to review or change your settings. Error Code: 80ee000c Error Message: 0x80ee000c SIP Transction timed out. What did I do wrong?
Answer: Judi, We have not certified Binary Telecom for use with Response Point. We are familiar with BT and I have tallked to Tim Jackson several times. To make BT service work with RP you will need to configure your firewall to forward some ports to RP. Binary Telecom is doing a really good job of working with deployers to set up these systems for use with there service. I recommend you contact Tim or BT directly.
Question: Will you be implementing a day/night mode for companies that want a receptionist for the day and the AA for evenings. I guess this goes along with a business hours setting
Answer: Yes, we are currently working on that.
Question: - I wish there were ‘groups’ we could create. Currently you can only have the phone ring to one person or to multiple people at once. The only way we have a support group now is we’ve included the name “support” under their nicknames.
Answer: You can do this by creating a user of type 'group' and then add that user to all of the phones of people who would belong to the group. Because it is a user in the system, callers can ask for it by name, it can have its own voicemail box, and so on. We are working on a design for a true group (that is a 'container' for other extensions.)
Question: Any plans to add the capability for a caller to back out of voicemail?
Answer: Yes, we are working on that.
Question: What is the Voice Mail Storage Capacity in hours?
Answer: Tim, Lots. A minute of voice mail is "about" 30 kb of data. There is 100MB of memory dedicated to storing voicemail. That's 60 hours by my calculations.
Question: Would you post her info... I missed her namd and email, thx
Answer: Ann Marvin <a href="mailto:annmar@microsoft.com"><span style="color: #006699;">annmar@microsoft.com</span></a>
Question: Are any of the hardware vendors designing a "secretary" phone? I'd love to see a phone that could show if someone is on a line, etc.
Answer: Cliff, We are working on this feature set now. Aastra currently offers a side car for all of ther phones.
Question: How will you handle postal codes for Canadian resellers?
Answer: yes
Question: We need the ability to restrict long-distance but not local calls from phones, something likened to a dial plan
Answer: We've spent a lot of time discussing what we want to do with a dial plan, in the next version. I would like to discuss your needs in more detail. Please contact me by email - <a href="mailto:phillip.garding@microsoft.com"><span style="color: #006699;">phillip.garding@microsoft.com</span></a>
Question: when will you be able to support remote phones over vpn
Answer: Soon.
Question: Does the solution finder support canadian postal codes as well as zip codes?
Answer: this is the same solution finder used by all MS Partner programs, so yes it supports Canada.
Question: will var profile page be available for Canadian MS partners?
Answer: yes
Question: Will Ann's contact info be available?
Answer: <a href="mailto:annmar@microsoft.com"><span style="color: #006699;">annmar@microsoft.com</span></a>
Question: What was that deadline for the profile getting in again?
Answer: Please try to get it by 3rd week of Nov.
Question: contest applicable to Canada (Quebec?)
Answer: yes
Question: Any support for remote phones or remote offices in the near future (meaing someone having a phone at home)
Answer: We are working on a VPN-based solution in the near term, and eventually broader support through an Internet connection.
Question: how will the partners listing order be determined? Geography, size, cert, etc? How is this weighted?
Answer: sorted by zip code
Question: when will the conference phone be available
Answer: Paul, Conference phones are on thier way. I can't speak for Clearone because they are not here but I have one on my desk.
Question: Please un-hide the OEM results
Answer: all are about equal.
Question: no choice for just 2
Answer: oops, sorry!
Question: Can I pick 2 out of 3
Answer: oops, sorry!
Question: Does anyone have an answer for the "error: the certificate authority is invalid or incorrect" Error number: 0x80072f0d on the RP Admin with Vista 64bit?
Answer: Are you running Response Point SP1? There was a Vista bug that prevents our self-signed certificate installed on the Vista PC. We had a work-around in SP1 to resolve this Vista issue. There is chance this might be a different issue but I'd like to know which version of RP software you are running.
Question: I install many systems but would like to see software that you can have on any computer without the hardware so you can set up many units and then down load the configuration to those units
Answer: I'm not sure what you are asking for. Do you mean you want the base unit functionality that can run on any PC (without the base unit hardware) or a way to automate loading configuration onto our base units?
Question: Any plans for call history access from the response point assistant?
Answer: Yes, we have been working on how to provide this information from Assistant.
Question: Do any of the OEMs/distributors have a RP starter system to get going in the office
Answer: Aastra does have one. email me or <a href="mailto:sales@aastra.com"><span style="color: #006699;">sales@aastra.com</span></a> for more details
Question: Can we look forward to a solution to the voicmail 'jail' issue?
Answer: Yes, we are working on that.
Question: not sure if you already said this - will slides be available for download?
Answer: yes
Question: If there are multiple VARs in the same zip how will they be listed?
Answer: The new Partner Solution Finder will allow you to enter all the zip code areas that you service so your Profile will be viewable to customers searching by the area codes you enter. there is no limit to the amount of zip codes you may enter.
Question: Why a new profile? Why not use the MS Partner info we already provide, or is that what I just heard them say they are doing?
Answer: yes, it's the same profile the rest of the partner program uses. Sorry if we didn't make that clear.
Question: Are the D-Link phones speakers full duplex? if not is there a solution available for that shortcoming?
Answer: They definitely are full duplex
Question: What about call pickup functionality, so that a ringing line can be answered from any phone?
Answer: We are working on a solution to this in the next version.
Question: Can i get the name of the director from syspine
Answer: Bob Gordon (the person who spoke today)
Question: When should be be expecting the next update to RP? 1 year? 6 months? 18 months+??
Answer: Robert Brown is answering this now - a service pack in the next few months and the next release within the next year.
Question: Can you define sooner and later?
Answer: sorry, no specific dates being announced today, but our team is proud that we get things out pretty quickly. SP1 came out half a year after V1.
Question: Which of your service providers are providing service in Canada?
Answer: The partners who enter Canadian provinces in their new profile will be viewable to the end user looking for hardware and services near their location in Canada when using the new Solutions Profile.
Question: Does DLink plan on making a phone that is PoE capable?
Answer: Yes, our next phone in Q1 will have PoE
Question: when will the software allow an extension that is external.. My existing phone system can forward calls/extension to my cell phone.. It works like a Centrex system and does not take up a line inbound or outbound after the call is forwarded... Even Vonage can do this...
Answer: Daniel,
Question: Are these sooner/later items NDA? Can we mention them to customers?
Answer: today's presentation is not confidential
Question: what is call toast?
Answer: Call 'toast' is the little window that pops up on your desktop in the bottom right hand corner to alert you to an incoming call.
Question: Not sure if this has been asked but just wondering when you will enable analog line DID to extension mapping, which is already suppored via SIP trunks
Answer: We have discussed this many times. Are customers asking for this functionality? For those who want it, do they pay for the DID service from their phone company (that sends signalling ahead of the audio stream to identify the phone number that was dialed) or would you like to see the mapping between the port of the phone line adapter and a given phone number? (If mapping between the port and the number, that doesn't work reliably if you have roll-over lines.)
Question: Who should I contact to become a DLink reseller?
Answer: please call the following number. 1.888.DLINK-SI (1.888.354.6574)
Question: most important clients are asking me for is being able to intercom thru all phones speakers, not an external speaker
Answer: We are looking at this feature for our next short term release.
Question: IS AD integration being planned?
Answer: We have looked at this, and we will very likely do this in the future. We understand that this is important for integration with SBS.
Question: Service Providers in Canada are: bizphone.ca.
Answer: Service Providers in Canada are currently bizphone.ca. Two others are in certification at this point in time and will be announced when that testing is complete.
Question: can someone provide information on when call presence will be available on the handsets instead of just via the assistant software?
Answer: We are looking at this in the "later" release (key-system-like experience).
Question: Are you considering TAPI for RP?
Answer: Sadly No. Sorry.
Question: I think the port on the adapter should be able to be mapped to an extension, that should be the easiest way to solve this issue in the short term.
Answer: Yes, we have looked at this. How important is this to your customers?
Question: How many analog ports/phones will it support?
Answer: Tim, It will have 4 analog jacks. There is not a limit to the number of FXS devices that can be supported
Question: email addy to become an aastra partner again?
Answer: aastralink.rp@aastra.com
Question: The analog line to extension thing is important for some of my smaller customers. I was unable to sell Response Point to three customers already who just had 5 or 6 analog lines, 3 in a hunt group and one or two that go to a specific person. They aren't DID, but seperate incoming phone #s. They were routing some directly and cannot do that with RP.
Answer: Thanks. I'll take this back to the folks designing this functionality.
Question: Q. It is possible to mix and match, say a syspine base unit with 5 syspine phones, 5 Astra phones and 3 linksys phones on the same setup. Do you recommend this mix and match?Personally I believe one day a patch/update will arive that will break this so I am skeptical on doing this but would like your input on this point. thanks.
Answer: Jasminder, You are exactly right. I see it work all the time but each OEM does exhaustive testing against thier own hardware. There is no way for the OEM to test agains the matrix of possible deployment permutations however. Good Luck
Question: Yes, SP1 on the vista admin. (with the certificate error) Syspine worked on this problem with no solution. Do we have a support number straight to MS for RP issues? Or is Vendor support the only way to get RP technical Answers?
Answer: It is possible the same issue was fixed in 32-bit of Vista but not in 64-bit version. The problem happens rarely but does exist. We can work with you offline to pinpoint and resolve this if you can get your contact info to us.
Question: how much later will the softphone be
Answer: Softphone will be in the 'later' release (in about a year). See the "Response Point Roadmap" slide.
Question: The biggest objection I get is that people cannot see who's on the line on the phone itself!
Answer: Rob is taling about Key system behavior now. This is coming "later"
Question: Syspine unit won't support T1???
Answer: No, we won't do it. But Quintum will provide the general T1 gateway compitable with all Response Point platform.
Question: There needs to be a way for RP partners to test drive the VoIP services from each provider. We requested to test drive from Packet 8, but did not get a response.
Answer: Certified RP partners should be contacted directly for this opportunity.
Question: Any way to bump up the later release to Summer?
Answer: We understand that there is a lot of interest in these features, but we want to make sure that quality is rock-solid. Trust me, we'd like to ship sooner, too. We are curerntly working to balance features vs. schedule.
Question: Sorry I meant to ask which of your VOIP service providers are currently supporting Canadaian installs?
Answer: It depends on the province in Canada - you can view providers at www.microsoft.com/responsepoint/locatespecialist.aspx
Question: I really need a way to know which outside line is ringing. I have shown this to a number of small businesses who answer "Line 4" differently than they answer Lines 1-3 so the RP system doesn't work for them.
Answer: Key line emulation is coming in the "later" release
Question: Any word on whether the "Sooner" vs. "Later" release will require new hardware (e.g. base units) or will they work on existing base units? Also would like to suggest announcing a target date soon (even if features may be subject to change). This helps VAR's set up and price local service plans/packages around Response Point - also helps handle objections from buyers who want to know when new features may be coming.
Answer: "Sooner" will definitely work on current hardware. We would prefer that the "Later" release work on current hardware also, but we are still working out the requirements for the that.
Question: Will you be publishing an API? For application vendors for instance? Would be nice to see some call-back type functionality exposed via web services etc.
Answer: We are looking at this for the release next year. I'd be interested in hearing more about the exact scenario around this. Please email me at 'jaywaltm@microsoft.com'. Thanks. - Jay
Question: Support for Faxes on the FXS? Modems?
Answer: Yes. The quality of Fax over IP is highly dependent on the quality of the network and the service
Question: is there anyway to get loaner RP systems for us to play with
Answer: The Aastra regional mangers have loaner systems. We also have a discounted demo program as well.
Question: Any plans for T38 end point support?
Answer: T38 is carrier dependent. There are no plans at this time.
Question: Can we have a Text to speech addin for the automated attendent instead of using a recording
Answer: Our experience is that the qualtiy of TTS for longer recordings is not very pleasing (for the caller to hear). For longer prompts, like VM greetings, answers to Frequently Asked Questions, etc., the caller experience will be much better with a recording. We tried to make it simple to create the recordings by using the phones in the phone system. Do you have a need for specific recordings to use TTS?
Question: Are we going to be getting an add-in for Internet Explorer that will give "Click to dial" like a blackberry has?
Answer: We are looking at this for the later release next year. I'd be interested to hear more about your scenario if you might email me at jaywaltm@microsoft.com
Question: I will respond to the API question. We use ConnectWise. I would LOVE to have the right contact pop up in ConnectWise for our service desk inbound calls based on CallerID. That is the type of API I would need.
Answer: Great, that would be there with what we are considering.
Question: The system support POTS and VOIP accounts at the same time, how customizable is the outbound dial plan in this environment
Answer: In the current version, this is controlled by which prefix you dial when you make a call (for example, you can set 9 to mean PSTN and 8 to mean VoIP). In the "later" release, the system will handle this automatically so that the admin can configure which service to use for a given type of call. For example, you can set all international calls to use VoIP and local calls to use PSTN.

Question: I would appreciate you answering this question publlically not privately as you did. Is Syspine going to continue to distribute through Costco? I hear a lot about partnering, but Costco is NOT a small business partner I want to associate with. Here is the answer you gave me privately: Costco.com creates significant end user awareness for Response Point. Costco members are very devoted and perceive products and services offered thru Costco have high quality and excellent value. Many customers that find Syspine RP at Costco return to Syspine or the MSFT RP "Locate A Specialist tab" and ask about local specialist support. This brings a very diverse base of SMBs to the Syspine and Response Point reseller, where more sophisiticated applications like VOIP & network assessment lead to future managed services opportunities for the Syspine reseller. I think you said the YES you would continue to distribute through Costco. Is that correct?
Answer: See Syspine Bob Gordon for more details.
Question: In the same vane as the fax, what about allowing some filter on answer/don't a particular line. Yet allow use for outgoing
Answer: We have support for the opposite - you can configure a phone line adapter port so that it can't be used for outbound (leaving the line open for incoming calls). We haven't discussed providing the converse functionality.
Question: are Dlink or Aastra going to be selling through Costco?
Answer: D-Link will not. Since this is a business product we only sell through the channel
Question: did someone mention a "poor man's CRM?" What is it?
Answer: For using who have Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager (BCM), Response Point Integration enables the user to track customer contact history allowing businesses their first CRM tool. Question: I just installed a Syspine and the client says if in assistant he dials another user, it rings them on speaker, then if the dialer picks up his handset, it doesn't move the speaker to the handset, he can hear the other user he dialed, but they cannot hear him.
Answer: If you pick up the handset, the voice will be transmitted by handset even you are in hand free mode. However, the receiving will still play by speaker, so people around you could all hear the voice.

Answer: Awesome
Question: Will RP allow an extension forward to a cell? like a centrex call transfer?
Answer: yes, do that today through the assistant
Question: It's been our experience that many of the people who are interested only need 3 to 7 telephones. Because of the cost of the base unit, it is not competitive with small key systems that are on the market.
